Phonelessness

Phonelessness —
Using your phone less
is the better way to live
Phonelessness is the idea that using your phone
less is the better way to live. It’s an adoptable
modern philosophy of digital wellness that
employs principles from digital minimalism and
mindfulness to repair our damaged relationship
with smartphones. Phonelessness is believing life is better lived off-screen, then taking the necessary steps to reduce your screen-time and protect your brain from addictive technology.
Phonelessness is turning your phone off at dinner with friends. It’s leaving your phone off during your morning routine, because that’s your time. It’s small acts of defiance that accumulate into a meaningful life, prioritizing the real world where it matters, and living courageously despite societal norms around smartphones, in protection of your cognitive sovereignty.

He has pledged to live without a phone until death—or until he has children—as a social experiment and statement against addictive technology.
He is writing a book, titled Phonelessness, on his experience of phoneless living in the digital age, the insights he has gleaned from it, and his philosophy of digital wellness that lies at the intersection of digital minimalism and mindfulness, called Phonelessness.
Noah was formerly a special projects journalist for Newsweek, covering advanced technologies like AI and blockchain, and has since published for The New York Times, among other publications. He is a featured guest on podcasts.
